Of Valve, and their amazing prediction.

Valve, in case you are not aware, are a game design company behind such popular games as Half-life and Left 4 Dead. I play their games quite a bit, especially their multiplayer class based FPS, Team fortress 2, which sees two teams fighting of red and blue battling it out with everything from rocket launchers to bows to automatic sentry guns. There’s even a magic gun that heals people! It is awesome, considering it was released in 2007. However great the game is, I wonder if Valve knew that they had created… A portal into the year 2010.

Take note of the Demoman (2nd from right) and the Sniper (5th from right)

In the U.K at the moment, the general elections are taking place. The main runners are the Labour party (Red), the Conservatives (Blue) and the Lib Dems (Yellow). Here’s where the clash comes in. The back story behind Team Fortress 2 is that there are two massive companies, both controlling half the world each. They hire mercenaries to fight each other, and they player can choose from nine classes to fight as.¬† As there are only nine characters, and there can be more than one character on a team, if they were all kitted out in grey or brown, no-one would be able to tell the difference. However, these two massive companies are call Reliable Excavation and Demolition, and Builder’s League United… RED and BLU. Labour’s colour is Red, while the Tory’s colour is Blue. Weird, but the similarities continue…

The Labour leader, Gordon Brown. A Scot with one eye. The Team fortress character, the Demoman. A Scot with one eye. Sure, Mr. Brown doesn’t have an obsession for blowing people up, but the point still stands. As for the Conservatives,¬† David Cameron (Who happens to live close to my current position) is similar to the Sniper. Both are pro-monarch, both have high moral standards and both snipe… David verbally, and the Sniper with a gun. coincidence, or foresight by Valve?

And what of Nick Clegg, the Liberal Democrat leader? Their party colour (Yellow) only has a small part in Team Fortress world… It is the colour of the spectator. Fitting, for a party who that has only ever looked on into the battle.

The final piece of evidence is possibly the most convincing… The Queen, who has power to dissolve parliament, who has the final say on laws and who all soldiers¬† serve, can be seen as the Administrator. A mysterious woman who controls both RED and BLU in secret, who decides how long fights last, and who all the mercenaries work for. She also happens to wear purple… the colour of the Monarchy…

Valve, I don’t know how or why you did it, but you have predicted the future of British politics though a video game. I rest my case.
